A coalition of groups met yesterday to begin rolling out a new program aimed at stopping bullying in Bemidji schools. The Safe Schools Ambassador program has been implemented in more than 1,200 schools around the country and was developed by California-based non-profit Community Matters, and the Joseph and Janice Lueken Family Foundation plans to fund its implementation in Bemidji's six elementary schools.

Jeff Lueken explained why his group got involved, "It creates a safe enviornment for students to go to school in and really improves the climate of the school."

The Lueken Foundation is working with Community Matters and the Bemidji School District to implement Safe Schools Ambassadors this fall. The groups hope to eventually expand the program into the Middle School and High School.
